H4H Cycle Team 2010: Powered by Hope!

The H4H Cycling Team soon will embark upon our 12th Cape Argus Cycle Tour, the world’s largest timed race that boasts a grueling 109km mountainous route that even Lance Armstrong is participating in for the first time this year.

With our signature ‘Bike Hoop’ that was made by local welders in Langa Township and has made it around the Cape many times, we will be met with cheers, funny comments and dunks from the spectators and riders.

We are happy to announce our team’s first cycle tour sponsorship, the Africa Centre presenting Spier Contemporary, who will provide us with a fresh new racing kit! Check out Spier’s art exhibitions, currently at City Hall. This will be the first year the H4H Cycle Team has not been the recipients of Ikamva Labantu’s homemade cycling jerseys. The team is excited to look like pros this year!

Our 2010 Team includes our SA director Thierry Kita who is a fixture on the roads and races around the Cape as the 6’6" tall former professional basketball player. Look out for him on his racing bike, as he is hard to miss. This year the H4H Cycle Team proudly welcomes our newest member, national Springbok rugby player Mpho Mbiyozo, who is excited to be riding on this year’s elite cycle team.

Hoops4Hope and Soccer4Hope programs emphasize fun and sportsmanship, while delivering a research based curriculum that enable youth to make better decisions around relevant social issues such as HIV prevention, conflict, drugs and alcohol abuse and gender issues.

Hoops4Hope and Soccer4Hope are working deep in the most challenged communities of Cape Town and Zimbabwe. Our hard working community leaders called All Stars use bicycles every day to help them manage MVP (most valuable people) coaches who bring sports and valuable life skills to schools, shelters and community centers the entire year long, building leaders and helping over 10,000 children get to the big leagues of life.

Please help us sustain our innovative programs or support the purchase of a new bicycle for a valuable team member. You can make a generous donation to our bank account: FNB #62017172412, Branch Code 201409. Please visit our website to make a credit card donation.

Be sure to cheer us on when you see us coming. See you at the finish line, Lance!
