Zim All Star Profile: Costa

Hi, my name is Costa Mashati and I am a man of 32 years of age. I stay in Dzivarasekwa in Harare and have been involved in the Hoops 4 Hope program since 1999. I started working with kids from the 7 primary schools in our area as voluntary basketball coach and an All Star for Dzivaresekwa. I did my primary school at Gombo primary and my high school at Dz high 1.

I also play  for Dzivarasekwa Raiderz basketball club that plays in the Harare basketball A League, and it has been in the league for about 15 years now. The highest level of playing basketball that the team has achieved is playing in the Zone 6 games in Zambia in 2007 and the following year in Zimbabwe. I have attended several Hoops 4 Hope level 1 and 2 coaching and refereeing clinics in the past 8 years and this has helped me a lot at  improving my basketball knowledge as a coach and an elite player.

At Hoops 4 Hope we do a life skills program that involves all the kids from primary and high schools and we deal with these kids on a daily basis, starting from 14.00hrs to about 16.30hrs .We  mainly do song and dance, exiting games, poems on HIV and AIDS , self respect, good sportsmanship, drug abuse, self esteem, etc. My dream is to see our program grow bigger and bigger!
