Soccer 4 Hope Awarded German Funding

Youth Development through Football (YDF) is a supranational program implemented in up to ten African countries with the hub in South Africa. It is operated by the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) in partnership with the Department of Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA). YDF liaises with non-governmental and governmental organizations who are actively engaged in youth development through football.

Through existing contracts and activity implementation, Soccer 4 Hope has built a strong relationship with the GTZ through the YDF project over the last two years. We are also fortunate to have been introduced to the YDF Toolkit – a soccer coaches training system that includes a life skills component. The main objective of the toolkit is to assist with the capacity development of current coaches and youth leaders, through their respective organizations.

This put Soccer 4 Hope in a very favorable position when we submitted our proposal for funding to the YDF many months ago. On November 9th, Soccer 4 Hope received some outstanding news and confirmation of a successful proposal. . .

Soccer 4 Hope has been awarded a EUR 50,000 GTZ/EU grant!

This project contributes to the overall objective of the YDF project, which is that ‘Youth are included as drivers in social and economic development in South Africa and other African Countries’.

The specific objective of this project is to build capacity in partner organizations (NGOs and CBOs) through training youth leaders to deliver football coaching and life skills education by using the YDF-toolkit and other football for development activities, concepts and methodologies.

The project will be implemented between December 2010 and July 2011 and the expected results are as follows:

#1: 5 Non Government Organizations/Community Based Organizations are identified as implementing partners and are enabled to implement effective youth development through football initiatives

#2: 120 Youth are empowered to coach and manage a football team, and through this implement the YDF-toolkit and other football for development activities, concepts and methodologies

#3: 1500 Youth are gathered through regular, structured football activity and are empowered through the YDF-toolkit and other football for development activities, concepts and methodologies

#4: 2 Youth Development Through Football festivals, hosting 250 youth each, are planned and executed in collaboration with partners

#5:  Implementing Partners are empowered to use the YDF M&E system in combination with the Soccer 4 Hope system, enabling effective information flow from the ground to the YDF office

It is also important that we acknowledge our project partners in the implementation of this grant:

  • Ikamva Labantu: providing administrative and project management support
  • Coaching for Hope: M&E and Coach Training Management support
  • Implementing PartnersNew World Foundation, Bread of Life, and Amandla Edufootball
  • Doringbaai Multi Purpose Resource Center and MALFA

The entire Soccer 4 Hope Team looks forward to working with our partners and the entire YDF and GTZ organizations to engage in growing our organization! Thanks to all who helped make this newfound partnership possible!
