Hoops 4 Hope All Stars Sandra and Linetie recently welcomed Ostein from Norway and Angela Nyaundi of the Zimbabwe Sports Commission. When Ostein told a friend he was going to Zimbabwe, a friend of his insisted he checked out H4H action and he did just that. Ostein’s friend was part of a delegation that visited our activities in Glen Norah in Dec 2010. The Sports Commission is starting to take notice of our work here in the communities. Our hope is the relationship will grow into something meaningful. Ostein, who worked for the YMCA in Norway for close to 20 years, was impressed by how the older youths in our program continue to give back to the program that helped raise them. ‘ This is a perfect way to be self sustainable’ he remarked at the sight of senior participants that were in the group. The Sports Commission chipped in with the support for refreshments for the kids. It is our belief now that Hoops 4 Hope cannot continue to work alone in the communities. Given our organization’s sheer size, H4H would benefit from a strategic partner, like the Commission.
Hoops 4 Hope
Since 1995, Hoops 4 Hope (H4H), a global not-for-profit organization, has been committed to supporting youth development and HIV/AIDS education throughout southern Africa by providing more than 10,000 school-age children with our Basketball / Skills 4 Life program.
“Ubuntu” expresses an ancient South African concept of unity, that every human is part of a greater whole, that I am who I am through you, and you are who you are through me. It captures in one word the combined love of all humanity.
We can’t change lives by ourselves. Every day, we have to stretch the buck further than one day before. We invite you to express ubuntu with us and the hundreds of lives we touch by getting involved with Hoops 4 Hope.
