H4H Represents in Belgium!

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Long time H4H Champion and supporter Jason Baseden, Athletic Director from The International School of Brussels, has been busy planning his next adventure to Cape Town! As preparation for he and his basketball team’s journey  in early April, where they will of course be visiting and volunteering with the Hoops 4 Hope programs, he and his team are  hosting a Hoops 4 Hope basketball weekend on February 3rd and 4th with the American School in London and the American School in Paris.  Nike has donated 40 shirts to sell for a fundraiser and Jason’s kids are operating a fundraiser by keeping their game statistics as a means to generate funds! His student athletes, both varsity and junior varsity teams, are receiving pledges based upon their offensive charges, steals, rebounds, blockshots, and points made. We look forward to hearing about their successful efforts. Thanks, Jason and Team!

Paying it Forward with Kicks!

Ray Allen sneakers sold by 11 Year Old makes H4H $599!

Finn, pictured above, holding Shaq's shoes!

Finn Li and his family were part of our Annual H4H Benefit this summer in the Hamptons. There, at the silent auction, he purchased a pair of Air Jordan 8 (VIII) Retro PE – Sugar Ray Allen (Black / Stealth – Clover) of which only about 24 pairs were released. The kicks are a black and green scheme to match the Boston Celtic’s jersey, with “Sugar Ray” stitched onto the shoe.”

These sneakers were a gift by Ray to H4H and South Africa Director Kita ‘Thierry’ Matungulu, who has become a multi-year guest Ubuntu coach and friend of the team. Finn, being a social entrepreneur, bought them at our benefit for $275, but knew they were worth much more, so he and his dad put them on eBay and they reached the bar of $970!!!!

Finn is a long time H4H MVP, so it was a no-brainer to split the profit with his friends in Zimbabwe who will use this generous act of Ubuntu to help hold their Best of Best tournaments at the end of the year!

Thanks Finn,

You’ve definitely got Ubuntu!

Champion Runs to Benefit Hoops!

Written by Mark Crandall

I first met Adrian Thornycroft in Harare, Zimbabwe in 1984.  I was a Rotary Scholar at the Prince Edward School, and Adrian was at another school across the city.  I navigated miles of roadside footpaths by bicycle to get to Borrowdale and spend amazing times with his family. We have been friends ever since, each with two beautiful daughters and many special memories in Zimbabwe and South Africa together.

Adrian is a true friend and has Ubuntu!

He is asking friends and colleagues to pledge their support in his effort to tackle 26.2 miles of New York City streets on November 6th (The NYC Marathon!)  to help kids and their communities in Zimbabwe.  I will be with him every step of the way. . .cheering that is!

Click here to check out Adrian’s personal, fundraising page!

Thank you so much for supporting Adrian and H4H!

Summer Benefit 2011!

Sunday, August 14th, 2011
On behalf of the entire Hoops 4 Hope Global Team, we want to thank you those of you who supported our 13th Annual Summer Benefit on the evening of August 6th in East Hampton, New York, and throughout the summer months. Our event was a tremendous success and we raised an admirable amount of funds to help us sustain our organization through the remainder of the year.
Please know that your silent auction items, works of art, food & beverage donations, and overall contributions to our benefit aesthetic were integral to our event! From our local friends young and old, to our NBA friends, to Bakithi Kumalo’s troupe of African musicians and Zulu dancers, to the energy at the ping pong table, to Canard Catering’s slider bar, the reception was enjoyed by all!  The displays were gorgeous and our silent auction surely added a generous dose of excitement to the evening.
Local Champ and recent Zim visitor Peter Kazickas spoke passionately about his recent African journey and the importance of sustaining our programs in Zimbabwe and beyond. The announcements concluded with Zimbabwean Country Director, Ngoni Mukukula, receiving the coveted UBUNTU Award!
Please check out some local photos, showcasing our benefit:
